How to Cleanse & Charge Celestite

A crystal is like a sponge for energy. As you carry or work with Celestite, it gradually picks up and holds the moods, stress and static around it, and can start to feel heavy or "flat". Cleansing simply clears that build-up so the stone feels light and clear again.

Charging (or programming) is the second step. Once the stone is clean, you refill it with fresh energy and a clear intention, so it works with purpose for you rather than sitting idle. Most people cleanse first, then charge.

• As soon as you bring it home, before you first wear or use it, so you start with a clean slate.
• Once a month is plenty for general upkeep. The full moon is the classic, easy reminder.
• Whenever it feels heavy, sticky or dull, or after it has been handled by others.
• After any intense session, such as emotional healing, meditation or protection work.
• When you set a new goal, cleanse and then re-charge it with the new intention.

These are the traditional methods. The ones marked “safe for every crystal” never harm a stone; the last few depend on the crystal and its setting, so always check the cautions that follow.

• Moonlight — rest it on a windowsill overnight, especially under a full moon, to cleanse and recharge. Safe for every crystal.
• Sacred smoke — pass it slowly through the smoke of sage, palo santo, loban or incense. Safe for every crystal and perfect for jewellery.
• Sound — ring a bell, tuning fork or singing bowl beside it, or chant, and let the vibration clear it. Safe for every crystal.
• Selenite or clear quartz — lay it on a selenite plate or in a clear-quartz cluster for a few hours to cleanse and top up its energy. Safe for every crystal.
• Breath and intention — hold it, breathe over it and picture bright light washing through it. Always available, always safe.
• Earth — bury a hardy stone in soil or a plant pot for a day to ground and reset it. Not for jewellery or delicate stones.
• Brown rice — nestle it in a bowl of dry, uncooked rice to draw out heavy energy, then throw the rice away. Gentle enough for set jewellery.
• Sunlight — a short spell of soft morning sun recharges many stones, but fades others. Check the caution for this stone below.
• Running water — a few minutes under a cool stream or tap cleanses water-safe stones only. Never for soft, porous or metallic crystals, or for set jewellery.
• Salt — only very hardy tumbled quartz should touch dry sea salt; salt pits and corrodes most stones and all metal, so most people skip it entirely.

• Keep Celestite away from water. Soaking or rinsing can damage, dull or even dissolve it, so always choose a waterless method such as smoke, sound or moonlight.
• Never cleanse Celestite in salt or salt water. Salt scratches, pits and corrodes it, and can lodge in tiny crevices.
• Keep Celestite out of prolonged direct sunlight, which slowly fades its colour. Recharge it in gentle moonlight instead.
• Celestite is soft, clustered and fades badly in sunlight, which turns its sky-blue pale. Keep it out of the sun and never soak the cluster.
