A gemstone is like a lens that focuses a planet’s energy, but a freshly bought stone is still spiritually asleep. Energizing it (through abhimantran and pran-pratishtha) cleanses the stone and awakens the planet’s living power inside it, so it truly works for you.
The method below applies to every planetary gemstone. For each specific stone, with its exact day, paksha, time, finger, metal and mantra, see the individual guides linked from the library.
Beej Mantra
ॐ नवग्रहाय नमः
Om Navagrahaya Namah
A salutation to the nine planets. Replace this with the specific planet’s beej mantra.
Chant 108 times (1 mala)
Why energization matters
In the Vedic tradition, a gemstone must be tuned to its planet, and to you, before it can carry positive energy. Purification clears away energies the stone picked up while being mined and handled. Pran-pratishtha then invites the planet’s presence into the stone through mantra and sincere intention.
An unenergized stone is really just an ornament. An energized, chart-suited stone becomes a living remedy.
Choose the right day, paksha and time
- Energize and wear a gem on its ruling planet’s day, for example Ruby on Sunday and Pearl on Monday.
- For the benefic planets (Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter and Venus), prefer the Shukla Paksha, the bright, waxing fortnight of the moon.
- For Saturn, Rahu and Ketu, the Krishna Paksha, the waning fortnight, is traditionally preferred.
- Time of day follows the planet too. Sun and morning planets are done around sunrise, Jupiter and Venus in the early morning or Brahma Muhurta, the Moon in the evening, and Saturn, Rahu and Ketu after sunset.
- Brahma Muhurta is the calm hour and a half before sunrise, and is felt to be the most sacred window of the day. If you know the planetary hour (hora) of your planet, that is even better.
Purify the stone
- 1Immerse the gem, set in its ring or pendant, in raw cow’s milk mixed with Gangajal, or in Panchamrit (milk, curd, ghee, honey and sugar).
- 2Leave it for a few hours, ideally overnight, so any stale energy is drawn out.
- 3Rinse with clean water, give it a final touch of Gangajal, and pat it dry with a fresh, soft cloth.
Please do not use soap, acids or ultrasonic cleaners for this. Only milk, water and Gangajal.
Pran-pratishtha (invite the planet)
- 1Set up a clean space with a deity image, a ghee lamp, incense and flowers, and sit facing east or north.
- 2Place the purified gem in front of the lamp so its light falls on the stone.
- 3Chant the planet’s beej mantra with full concentration, at least one mala (108 times).
- 4Picture the stone filling with the planet’s warm light, then hold it to your forehead and ask for its blessing.
Wear it correctly
- Wear the gem the same day, right after the ritual.
- Use the correct finger and metal for that planet, which you will find in the individual guides.
- Touch it to the deity’s feet, or an elder’s, before you put it on.
A word of caution
The most powerful stones, especially Blue Sapphire, Hessonite and Cat’s Eye, should be trialled for a few days and worn only after your birth chart has been studied. The right gem lifts you up, while the wrong one can unsettle you. When in doubt, please get your chart checked before wearing.

Not sure which gem or Rudraksha suits you?
The right remedy depends on your birth chart. Have Sachin ji study your chart before you wear a powerful stone, so it strengthens you rather than unsettles you.
