Fluorite is the "genius stone", prized for mental clarity, focus and cutting through confusion. Its bands of green and purple make it a favourite for the desk.

It is soft and its colours fade in sun, so keep it from knocks and sunlight, and cleanse it gently with moonlight, smoke or selenite.

  • Moonlight

Leave it out overnight, ideally under a full moon.

Gentle and safe for every crystal and every setting.

  • Sacred smoke

Pass it through sage, palo santo, loban or incense smoke.

Safe for every crystal; no water or heat involved.

  • Sound

Ring a bell, tuning fork or singing bowl beside it.

Only vibration touches the stone, so nothing can be damaged.

  • Selenite / clear quartz

Rest it on a selenite plate or in a quartz cluster for a few hours.

Cleanses and charges gently — perfect for soft stones and jewellery.

  • Breath & intention

Hold it, breathe over it and picture bright light clearing it.

    Always available and completely safe.

  • Dry brown rice

Nestle it in uncooked rice for a day, then discard the rice.

Dry and gentle — safe even for set jewellery and soft stones.

  • Running water

A few minutes under a cool stream or tap.

A quick, cool rinse only; never soak this stone.

  • Earth burial

Buried in soil or a plant pot.

Use dry soil and keep it brief — this stone dislikes moisture.

Avoid

  • Sunlight

A short spell of gentle morning sun.

Direct sun fades this crystal — charge it in moonlight instead.

  • Salt / salt water

Resting in dry sea salt or brine.

Salt pits and corrodes this crystal — do not use it.

Cleansing and charging: what they mean

A crystal is like a sponge for energy. As you carry or work with Fluorite, it gradually picks up and holds the moods, stress and static around it, and can start to feel heavy or "flat". Cleansing simply clears that build-up so the stone feels light and clear again.

Charging (or programming) is the second step. Once the stone is clean, you refill it with fresh energy and a clear intention, so it works with purpose for you rather than sitting idle. Most people cleanse first, then charge.

02

When to cleanse and charge Fluorite

  • As soon as you bring it home, before you first wear or use it, so you start with a clean slate.
  • Once a month is plenty for general upkeep. The full moon is the classic, easy reminder.
  • Whenever it feels heavy, sticky or dull, or after it has been handled by others.
  • After any intense session, such as emotional healing, meditation or protection work.
  • When you set a new goal, cleanse and then re-charge it with the new intention.

Ways to cleanse and charge Fluorite

These are the traditional methods. The ones marked “safe for every crystal” never harm a stone; the last few depend on the crystal and its setting, so always check the cautions that follow.

  • Moonlight — rest it on a windowsill overnight, especially under a full moon, to cleanse and recharge. Safe for every crystal.
  • Sacred smoke — pass it slowly through the smoke of sage, palo santo, loban or incense. Safe for every crystal and perfect for jewellery.
  • Sound — ring a bell, tuning fork or singing bowl beside it, or chant, and let the vibration clear it. Safe for every crystal.
  • Selenite or clear quartz — lay it on a selenite plate or in a clear-quartz cluster for a few hours to cleanse and top up its energy. Safe for every crystal.
  • Breath and intention — hold it, breathe over it and picture bright light washing through it. Always available, always safe.
  • Earth — bury a hardy stone in soil or a plant pot for a day to ground and reset it. Not for jewellery or delicate stones.
  • Brown rice — nestle it in a bowl of dry, uncooked rice to draw out heavy energy, then throw the rice away. Gentle enough for set jewellery.
  • Sunlight — a short spell of soft morning sun recharges many stones, but fades others. Check the caution for this stone below.
  • Running water — a few minutes under a cool stream or tap cleanses water-safe stones only. Never for soft, porous or metallic crystals, or for set jewellery.
  • Salt — only very hardy tumbled quartz should touch dry sea salt; salt pits and corrodes most stones and all metal, so most people skip it entirely.

Caring for Fluorite

  • Only give Fluorite a quick, cool rinse if you must, then dry it at once. Do not soak it or leave it in water for long.
  • Never cleanse Fluorite in salt or salt water. Salt scratches, pits and corrodes it, and can lodge in tiny crevices.
  • Keep Fluorite out of prolonged direct sunlight, which slowly fades its colour. Recharge it in gentle moonlight instead.
  • Fluorite is soft and scratches easily, and its rainbow colours fade in sunlight. Keep it out of the sun and handle it with care.

When in doubt, the safe choice for any crystal is moonlight, sacred smoke, sound or a selenite plate. These four never damage a stone.

05

Charge and program Fluorite

  1. 1Cleanse the crystal first using one of the safe methods above.
  2. 2Hold it in your cupped hands, close your eyes and take a few slow breaths until you feel settled.
  3. 3Fix on a single, clear intention — say it in the present tense, as if it is already true.
  4. 4Breathe over the stone and picture your intention flowing into it as warm light.
  5. 5Seal it with a short affirmation, then keep the stone close, wear it, or place it where you will see it often.

An affirmation you can use for Fluorite: “My mind is clear, focused and organised.”

06

What Fluorite is used for

Fluorite suits students, planners and anyone doing focused mental work who wants clarity and order.

  • Sharpens focus, study and decision-making
  • Clears mental fog and confusion
  • Brings order to chaotic thoughts and spaces
  • Supports learning and concentration

Crystals support and focus your own intention; they are a complement to, and never a replacement for, medical or professional care.
