Cat's Eye, known as Lehsunia, is the gemstone of Ketu, the south lunar node. Ketu governs intuition, spirituality, detachment and sudden turns of fate, and the stone’s shifting band of light mirrors Ketu’s mysterious nature.

Ketu, like Rahu, has no day of its own. Cat’s Eye is energized in the evening, often on the day chosen for your Ketu remedy and in Ketu’s hour, with a calm and focused mind.

Beej Mantra

ॐ स्रां स्रीं स्रौं सः केतवे नमः

Om Sraam Sreem Sraum Sah Ketave Namah

A salutation to Ketu, the shadow planet of detachment, insight and moksha.

Chant 108 times (1 mala)

01

The right day, paksha and time

Cat's Eye carries the energy of Ketu (Ketu), so it awakens best when you energize it in tune with that planet. Choose the planet's own day, the right lunar fortnight, and a quiet hour, and the stone connects with you far more strongly.

  • Day: Thursday (or your Ketu remedy day).
  • Paksha (lunar fortnight): Krishna Paksha (waning moon).
  • Time: Twilight, after sunset. If you happen to know the planetary hour (hora) of Ketu, choosing it is even better.
  • Keep ready: the Cat's Eye set in silver or panchdhatu, a clean copper or steel bowl, raw cow's milk and Gangajal, a ghee lamp (diya), incense, a few fresh flowers, and a mala to count on.

Bathe and put on fresh clothes before you begin, and sit facing east or north. Give yourself enough time so nothing feels hurried. The quiet, sincere feeling you hold matters just as much as the steps.

02

Purify the gemstone (Shuddhi)

  1. 1Place the Cat's Eye in the bowl and cover it fully with raw cow's milk and Gangajal.
  2. 2Let it rest for a few hours. Many people leave it soaking overnight so it settles through the quiet hours before dawn.
  3. 3This gently washes away any dull or heavy energy the stone may have gathered while it was mined, cut and handled.
  4. 4Lift it out, rinse it with clean water (a final splash of Gangajal is lovely), and pat it dry with a soft, fresh cloth.

Please do not use soap, chemicals or an ultrasonic cleaner for this. Plain milk, water and Gangajal are all that tradition asks for.

03

Set up your sacred space (Sthapana)

  1. 1Spread a clean cloth on a low table or your altar and place your chosen deity, or a picture of them, upon it.
  2. 2Light the ghee lamp and the incense, and offer a few fresh flowers.
  3. 3Rest the purified Cat's Eye in front of the lamp so its light falls softly on the stone.
  4. 4Sit comfortably facing east or north, with your back straight.
04

Awaken the planet's energy (Pran Pratishtha)

This is the heart of the ritual. You are inviting the living energy of Ketu to settle into the stone. Take a few slow breaths, look at the Cat's Eye, and quietly hold in mind why you want to wear it.

Now chant the beej (seed) mantra of Ketu with full attention. One full mala, 108 repetitions, is the least you should do to energize it. Chant more if you have the time and the devotion.

ॐ स्रां स्रीं स्रौं सः केतवे नमः

Om Sraam Sreem Sraum Sah Ketave Namah

A salutation to Ketu, the shadow planet of detachment, insight and moksha.

Chant 108 times (1 mala)

Keep your eyes softly on the gemstone as you chant, and picture it filling with warm light. When the mala is done, cup the stone in your palms, touch it to your forehead, and ask the planet, in your own words, for its blessing.

05

Wearing your energized gemstone

  1. 1Wear the Cat's Eye the same Thursday (or your Ketu remedy day), right after the ritual, while the energy is still fresh.
  2. 2It is usually worn on the middle finger of the right (working) hand.
  3. 3Touch it first to the feet of your deity, or an elder you respect, then to your eyes, before you slip it on.
  4. 4Quietly promise yourself to keep it clean and to treat it with care.
06

Caring for your gemstone

  • Take it off for anything that could badly soil or knock the stone, and keep harsh chemicals away from it.
  • Wipe it clean now and then. If it has been off for a long while or feels dull, you can re-energize it briefly on the planet’s day.
  • Ketu gems can act suddenly, so trial the stone and observe before wearing it for good.
  • This is a strong nodal stone, so never wear it casually or without guidance.
07

Who should wear Cat's Eye, and what it helps with

Cat’s Eye is considered when Ketu is strong or troublesome, during Ketu’s mahadasha, or for those on a spiritual path, always after careful chart study.

  • Traditionally guards against sudden losses and hidden dangers
  • Linked with sharper intuition and spiritual insight
  • Said to steady erratic fortunes during Ketu dasha
  • Connected to detachment, focus and freedom from unhealthy attachments

A stone this powerful is best worn only after your birth chart has been studied. The right gem strengthens you, while an unsuitable one can unsettle you, so when in doubt, please have your chart checked first.

Personal Guidance

Not sure which gem or Rudraksha suits you?

The right remedy depends on your birth chart. Have Sachin ji study your chart before you wear a powerful stone, so it strengthens you rather than unsettles you.
